Where the hours actually go
Prep — furniture, tape, drop cloths, patching — consumes a third to half of first-timer time, and painters charge for exactly this. Active painting runs ~150–200 sq ft per hour for amateurs (cutting in edges plus rolling the field). A 330-sq-ft room at two coats is a focused weekend, not an evening — the calculator prices that honestly so the weekend can be planned.
The dry-time schedule
Latex recoats in ~4 hours, which makes two coats a same-day possibility and a two-day comfort. Full cure takes 2–4 weeks: gentle use is fine immediately, but scrubbing, hanging, and tape removal should wait. Planning around the 4-hour window is what turns "one coat today, one coat tomorrow" into a system instead of a rush.
Speed comes from setup, not haste
Wrapped rollers, loaded trays, and a pre-taped room cut total hours more than any rolling technique. Second-room painters discover the real lesson: the second room takes half the time of the first, almost entirely because the setup knowledge transferred. Speed is an inventory problem.
